Island Time Joins Working with Cancer Initiative

Island Time is the first corporation in South Carolina to make the pledge in building a supportive workplace for employees dealing with cancer and life-altering illnesses.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – Wednesday, February 15, 2023 –

Local vacation rental company, Island Time, recently signed the Working With Cancer Pledge. The pledge states:

We the leaders from companies, health care providers, and nonprofits across the globe, stand together and pledge to provide a more supportive, and recovery-forward culture at work for people with cancer.

This pledge was launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in January. Its purpose is twofold:

  • To increase awareness that 50 percent of all people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
  • To develop tangible commitments from employers to be more supportive of those working with the disease.

Island Time’s Pledge:

Island Time will secure the job, salary level and benefits of any of their employees diagnosed with cancer* for at least one year, so they can stay focused on their health treatment as their priority.

All Island Time employees with cancer* will be individually accompanied when they return to work through personalized career support.

All Island Time employees in a primary caregiver role for a patient in their immediate family will receive custom personal and professional support to navigate the flexibility and time arrangements needed to maintain their energy at work and as a caregiver.

*Island Time’s Pledge Applies To Employees Suffering From All Forms Of Cancer And Other Chronic Disease And Serious Illness Requiring Specific Medical Care As Defined By The Country In Which They Live.

Island Time CEO Eric Moret takes this opportunity to make a difference seriously.

“It’s a tough reality, but whether directly or indirectly, every one of us will have to confront cancer in our lives and in our workplaces”, said Moret. “Companies have a key role to play in that. Working with Cancer is an increasingly important initiative, on a front that many businesses are already invested in. By making their existing efforts more accessible and visible, we can reduce the anxiety and stigma of cancer in the workplace and positively impact our people’s health. Through a truly collaborative approach, a light lift from everyone becomes a deep and lasting impact for cancer patients at work.”

Today, more than 50 percent of patients are afraid to share their diagnosis at work, while 92 percent believe the support they get at work would positively impact their health. The goal of this pledge is to build a supportive workplace for those living with cancer.

More than 30 global corporations have already signed the pledge, including Walmart, PepsiCo, Verizon, L’Oréal, Adobe, Omnicom, Bank of America, Google, Microsoft or Warner Bros Discovery.
